Reunion:
The Road Back Home

Traveling across the country

on the way to Neosho, MO,

to attend the class reunion

and the fabled talent show.

The Calif. desert - what a lot of barren land:

Joshua trees and chaparral and truck loads of sand.

Arizona splendors, wondrous sights to greet our eyes.

God's handiwork surrounds us: crimson rocks and indigo skies.

New Mexico is big sky and ever expanding plains,

ancient pueblos, and growing towns

with romantic sounding names.

Texas and Oklahoma, both look flat-out flat.

"Yes, Ma'am" and "No, Sir," he said, tipping his hat.

Tee shirts and Indian treasures

beckon along the way,

buttes and wide open spaces, speak of another day,

when the land belonged to buffalo, wild turkey, deer and quail.

Before the days of autos, cell phones and E-mail.

I think about the pioneers in wagons, oh so small,

carrying them to a new life

with all they had to haul.

No roads, no maps, no pit stops like McDonald's or Taco Bell.

at times, they must have thought

they were entering the gates of hell.

Through pouring rain and scorching sun,

they had no time to cry.

Pushing on to find their dream,

they had to "do or die."

With faith in God and need to know,

they explored the barren wastes.

We do the same today, in a place called Cyber Space.

On this little blue green world,

3rd rock from the sun,

to find our place, to run the race,

we've only just begun.

As we go along our journey, where countless feet have trod,

we find ourselves, and find the way

that leads back home to God.

He's everything, in everyone.

He's master, Savior, friend.

He's the bedrock of our lives:

our beginning and our end.

All the time we spent in fear and guilt and fright,

was really the hand of God leading us to the light.

As we journey forward, He takes us by the hand,

and invites us to open our eyes

and see His promised land.

It's everywhere about us, if we can only see,

We're loved; and we're forgiven, and best of all, we're free!
