It's Christmas Day, 2001,
in Blythe, California, are we having fun?
Heading west on a wing and a prayer,
we thought a three day ride would get us there.
Seduced by the lure of clear desert nights,
mineral spas and Sky Valley sights,
longing to see family and friends,
we embarked on a journey which never ends.
Driving along, fat, dumb and happy
in an old motor home which turned out to be crappy.
The kitties were scared of the vibration and shaking;
they hid in the bathroom, meowing and quaking.
We rattled and shook and clanked along;
soon we knew something was really quite wrong.
The head lights went out, leaving us in the dark;
a tow truck pulled us to a safe place to park.
Next day, the battery died, the alternator too;
before you knew it, the radiator blew.
Another tow truck came that day
to haul us back to the "Flying J."
We don't see Santa anywhere around.
Rumor has it his sleigh broke down.
Or maybe the light burned out in Rudolph's nose?
Can a repairman fix that, do you suppose?
We know that God planned our entire trip,
but this part, we'd just as soon skip
We expect that when this lesson is done,
we can get to the part where we're having fun.
When the mechanics have rested from their Christmas Day,
we hope they can get us back on our way.
Long after this vacation is over and done,
We'll remember the Christmas of 2001.
PS: We got here safely and everything's fine.
The spas are awesome, the weather devine.
We thank the Lord for guiding our sleigh
and giving us a peaceful vacation stay.
