"But he that is joined unto the Lord is one Spirit" (I Cor. 6:17, KJV).
It is clear that we have been birthed from God. We were made in His image and in His likeness (Gen. 1:26), and He is Spirit. Jesus Himself said that He that worships God must worship Him in Spirit and in truth (Jn. 4:24). With that understanding, any other type of worship is not what God wants. He does not want us to worship with our natural strength; He does not want us to worship Him with our natural mind; He does not want us to worship Him with our emotions; He does not want us to worship Him with our finances, with our tithes and offerings. All these things were worship under the Old Covenant, where God was evolving the natural, the body and the soul, but Jesus said, "He that worships God must worship Him in Spirit and in truth." There is no other way to worship God. Any worship that you perform, with your soul, with your mind, with your strength, with your finances, with your emotions, anything that is tied to the natural, means nothing to God at all. Spirit relates to Spirit. Sometimes, God allows the spiritual to invade the natural to glorify, or perhaps I should say, to bless the natural, with healings, with natural understanding, with finances. All these things, the Spirit of God can take and use in the natural, but this is not worship to God, because God must be worshipped in Spirit.
This natural is OK. There's nothing wrong with it, but it is only the house that we are living in (II Cor. 5:1-5), that is doing the worshipping. We are not the house. We are the Spirit, the image and likeness of God who lives in the house. The Old Covenant with its law was to control the house, not to control you as spirit, for as a matter of fact, the spirit of man was dead in trespasses and sins until Christ came (Eph. 2:1, 5). You as spirit are perfect (Eph. 1:3-4); you, as spirit, do not have to change; you do not have to evolve. The only thing that has to evolve is your body and your soul. You, as spirit, are dwelling with Christ in heavenly places (Eph. 2:6). Your house has a tendency to cause you death and guilt and shame, but this is not you. This is controlled by the law. Your law in God is love, mercy and kindness (Rom. 14:17; Gal. 5:23). And this is not of your doing. This is God manifesting Himself through your spirit. God is love; God is mercy; God is kindness and He manifests this through you because you are one with God. You can only be what God is. God is pure light; so we are pure light. God is pure life; so we are pure life. God is pure; so we are pure. That purity is emanating continuously into our natural and our natural is being changed into the image and likeness of God. That which is mortal is continuously being changed into immortality; that which was corrupted is continuously being changed into an incorrupt body, a glorified body, by His Spirit living in us.
We are not this body. We are spirit as God is spirit. It is so beautiful to see that we have come forth out of God. He is our true Father. Yes, our earthly father brought forth this house that we are living in, but that is not us. Our Father in heaven has birthed us forth as spirit even as He is spirit. He is our true Father (Jn. 20:17). Just like Jani says, that the communion that they partake of in church with the bread and the wine, is not the real communion that we are dealing with (End Note "A"). Our communion with God is a spiritual communion. This communion that they partake of in church is the natural communion. It is only a shadow of things to come, of things that we are now experiencing in the Spirit. As spiritual infants and children and teen agers, we see ourselves as being this house, but this is not the truth about us. This is the best that we can see, so in that place, God allows us to partake of the bread and the wine. Until He opens our eyes to see that we are truly spirit made in the image and likeness of God, then we commune with God in spirit and in truth, and not limited anymore by bread and wine in the natural.
It is so clear that God has finally broken down the middle wall of partition between the two, spiritual and natural, and now the two have become one total being with which we glorify God. I am not saying that the two have become fully one, but it is the beginning of oneness, of unity, complete unity, the God-man unity that Christ brought forth by dying for us. We do not have to use the natural emblems to remember Him anymore because we are one with Him, totally one with Christ, and with the Father. Yes, our earthly fathers truly birthed forth this natural house that we are dwelling in. They built this house and we honor our earthly fathers for that, but our true Father is our heavenly Father, the Father of spirits (Heb. 12:9), as the bible says. He has birthed us forth out of Himself in the image and likeness of Himself. He is our true Father. I need to repeat this over and over and over again so that our natural mind will see clearly that the word of God is sharper than any two edged sword and that it has cut asunder, separated soul and spirit in my life (Heb. 4:12).
When I say the word of God, I am not talking about the bible, but I am talking about His living word, the rhema, who gave this fresh new revelation from God, revealing this separation of soul and spirit to me. Only the Spirit of truth can reveal to me that I am spirit and I am not this flesh that I am dwelling in. When the scriptures say that no good thing can come out of this flesh (Rom. 7:18), it is true. It is not necessary for the flesh to produce good because Spirit is good; flesh is not. This is why we do not have to follow the law of the Old Testament anymore because we see that we are spirit and the law is truly only for the flesh, to control the flesh, and since we see that we are not flesh, but spirit, the law has now faded away (Heb. 8:13), and our new law is to love one another (Jn. 13:34; 15:12,17; Rom. 12:10; 13:8; I Thes. 4:9; I Pet. 1:22; I Jn. 3:11, 23; 4:7,11-12; II Jn. 1:5). The middle wall of partition has truly been removed (Eph. 2:14). We now see clearly. We do not have to see it through a glass darkly anymore (I Cor. 13:12), because it is clear that flesh is flesh and spirit is spirit. As we now see the difference between the two, they have now been joined together into one and the flesh is now being clothed upon by the spirit, being infused by the spirit. If you still see yourself as being the flesh and that is you, then continue to do those things in the flesh that are pleasing to God, until God takes down the middle wall of partition so that you see clearly that you are spirit and then you can put aside the fleshly things. Then, you do not have to abide by the law anymore. It has no more function in your life.
To the extent that we see that we are spirit and not flesh, to that extent has the law faded away in our lives and we don't have to follow it anymore. If you do not see this truth, be comforted. You are not expected to follow something that God has not fully revealed to you yet because that's only going to cause guilt and shame. Where God has you right now, He totally controls that; He is totally in charge of it; He totally rules over you in that place; He has total authority over you, total power over you, total dominion over you and He is totally sovereign to you in that place, and that's where you worship God, right there. When He brings you higher, you worship in a higher place. Do not feel guilty and ashamed of where you are. It is God's problem to bring you further. He is totally responsible for that, not you. You cannot gain any spiritual thing with your natural mind or with your natural efforts. So, do not try. It is strictly in God. Rest in God and He will bring you forth. Just like we are made in His image and likeness, so it must be His timing for everything in our lives. We cannot run ahead of him. We have to realize that. The middle wall of partition has been truly broken down. The veil has been rent in two in the temple and we now know even as we are known (I Jn. 3:2).
