The land lies desolate beneath the burning sun.

My eyes survey the damage the canker worm has done:

(Joel 1:4; 2:25)

the barren fields devoid of grain, the body racked with doubt and pain.

(Deut. 28: 11,38-40,58-65; II Chron. 6: 28-29; 7:13-14)

Will milk and honey, I wonder, ever flow again?

(Lev. 20:24; Num. 13:27; Deut. 11:9; Jer. 11:5)

The sun has turned to darkness. The moon has turned to blood.

(Joel 2:31; Acts 2:20; Rev. 6:12)

Who will come to guide me across the roaring flood

of fear and pain and doubt that keep my soul in chains?

(Isa. 61:1-3; Luke 4:18; Heb. 2:14-15)

Why does He withhold the solace for my pains?

Who has caused Him to delay? Is He fighting other wars?

(Dan. 10:13, 20)

I need Him to bind me up, put salve upon my sores

(Jer. 8:22; 46:11)

and heal the wounds deep within my soul.

I need the one, the mighty Christ who alone can make me whole.

(Isa. 29:18; Matt. 4:23; 8:7; 9:35; 11:4-5; 15:30-31; 21:14; Lk. 7:22; Jn. 5:3-9; 9:25;

Acts 4:30; Rev. 19:11-16)

Why do you delay so long, Lord? Why do you make me wait?

(Ps. 5:3; 27:14; 33:20;37:7, 34; 38:15; 130:5-6; Prov. 20:22;

Isa. 8:17; 30:18; 40:31; Micah 7:7; I Cor. 1:7)

Often in soul's anguish, about the outcome of my fate?

I long for you to restore the land, to return me to Mount Zion

(Joel 2:25; 2 Kings 19:31; Psalm 74:2; Ps. 125:1; 133:3; Isa. 24:23; 37:32; Joel 2:32; Obad. 17; Heb. 12:22; Rev. 14:1)

where I can see the face of God, the eagle, calf, and lion (Rev. 4:7)

the 4 and 20 elders beside the Crystal Sea, (Rev. 4:4)

crying day and night, holy, holy, holy. (Rev. 4:8)

Lift me to that higher place where is no pain or tears, (Rev. 21:4)

where light has swallowed darkness and with it all my fears.

(Rev. 21:23)

Take this body poor and frail, so human to behold,

and make me, oh Lord, your promised man of gold, (Isa. 13:12)

where I will walk the high place far above the flood, (Amos 4:13)

clothed in garments pure and white, (Is. 1:18; Rev. 6:11)

cleansed by your own blood. (Heb. 9:22)

There I'll see the land renewed with wheat and oil and wine

(II Chron. 2:15; Hosea 14:7; Michah 4:4; Lk. 10:34)

flowing in abundance, from the fount divine.

(Joel 3:18)

Yet when I reach this holy mount, you'll send me out again,

(Mk. 16:15)

to share this place of peace and love

you've prepared for every man.

(Ps. 145:12; John 1:7, 9; 12:32; Acts 17:25; Rom. 5:18; Rom. 11:32; 1 Cor. 12:6; 1 Tim. 2:4,6,10; Titus 2:11)
